Are We Ready for a Masked Fall? New Covid Protocols Keep the Trend Alive

 A historically black southern college and a major Hollywood studio are among the first to make new covid safety protocols, sparking a nationwide debate about mask mandates.



Morris Brown College posted to their Instagram account Sunday that “all students and employees are required to wear face masks.” after positive cases were reported in the Atlanta University Center. 

Morris Brown President Dr. Kevin James has restricted large gatherings and asked students to “adhere to CDC guidelines for isolation and quarantine,” and that “frequent hand washing is expected from all students and employees.” 

The rise of detections has hit Hollywood, as Lionsgate offices in Santa Monica recently required some employes to mask up. 

This is the first change since May, when the Hollywood Reporter said that “the film industry relaxed its COVID protocols to no longer require masks in most workplace settings.”

The media reports cite an in-office memo posted by Deadline and protocols were not publicly released by Lionsgate. 

Lionsgate isn’t the only studio affected by the recent spike in covid cases. Deadline reports that:

“we’re hearing of more infections over the past few weeks. Indeed, the L.A. County Public Health website lists outbreaks in the production of Fox’s The Masked Singer and at Warner Bros.’ Ivy Station offices in Culver City.”

This comes amid reports from the World Health Organization about the potential danger from the EG 5 variant. 

The United States is the second most at risk country, according to the CDC, with over one thousand variations of EG 5 detected.

Currently the WHO categorizes the overall risk evaluation as low and that “there are no reports of elevated disease severity associated with this variant.”

The CDC currently states in its covid protocols that “consistently and correctly wearing a high-quality mask” is a “prevention strategy,” and that “some masks provide a higher level of protection than others.”

Internet personalities and influencers have latched on to the reports, warning that this could be the start of a new lockdown phase. 

Kevin Bass PHD MS posted on X that “There is no strong evidence to support mask mandates to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” along with a two year old video of a maskless protester being arrested. 

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene re-posted reports from Morris Brown College with the defiant “Americans have had enough COVID hysteria. WE WILL NOT COMPLY!”

Citizen Free Press posted “They're pushing covid hysteria again. Never forget the mask freaks,” along with a video of an airline passenger in a half-bubble suit.

The Gateway Pundit posted unverified reports that “Biden regime is preparing to reinstate full COVID-19 lockdowns, beginning with masking mandates for TSA and airport employees reportedly as early as mid-September.”

Dr. Leana Wen, CNN Medical Analyst, said that vaccinations remain the most effective defense against covid symptoms and that cloth masks “are little more than facial decorations” and that a high quality mask could be needed.
